Latinos Lose Spanish by the Third Generation. Half Still Claim the Identity in the Fourth
Somebody posts the question every few weeks, in one forum or another: can you lose your heritage? It is usually asked by a second or third generation person who no longer speaks the language and has been told, by someone in their own community, that this disqualifies them. The question sounds unanswerable. It is not. Both halves of it have been measured, in the United States and in Canada, and they run on two different clocks.
